Sticks & Stones

A Do-It-Yourself Anti-Bullying Workshop

Stop bullying in your school or organization!

Bullying is everywhere – on the playground, in the cafeteria, in the classroom, on the way home from school. Some of it is easy to see... fighting, hitting, tossing someone's shoes into a tree. Some bullying is harder to spot... social isolation, teasing, name-calling.

Schools, community groups, and parents need to face bullying head-on. But how do you deal with bullying issues sensitively? How do you make sure that young people really care? How do you make the process fun and safe for everyone?

The answer is in InterPlay interactive theatre techniques, like those in “Sticks & Stones: A Do-It-Yourself Anti-Bullying Workshop.” InterPlay involves everyone - students, parents, teachers - in hands-on activities and discussion, empowering them to find the solutions to bullying problems by themselves. "Sticks & Stones" is engaging, active, fun, and –most importantly – proven effective!
"Sticks & Stones" is an easy, step-by-step guide to using tested InterPlay methods in your school or organization, for students from grade school to high school.
"Your 'Sticks and Stones' program/workshop was excellent... I love 'role' playing activities and this model gives any counselor the opportunity to write a script for any issue that needs to be addressed." -Deane Wise, school counselor, Indiana

"Sticks & Stones" is a three-part workshop, incorporating theatre games, "people-sculpting" exercises that create dialogue and understanding, and interactive scene performances.

Theatre games warm your group up and get them to work together as a team. Students will build trust, discuss "cheating," and learn about individual similarities and differences, all while having fun and cooperating together. These non-competitive games work for any age level.

People sculpting is a great way for students to learn what other people think about bullying. Your students will create "living statues" showing how they feel about things like fighting, friendship, tattle-tales, peacemaking, and more. See how people can feel about intervening in a bullying situation. Explore how and why people use power in personal relationships and group situations.

Interactive performances take "skits" to the next level. Your audience actually gets involved in the performance, improvising and testing solutions to bullying problems. Two complete scene outlines are included, with easy, step-by-step instructions on how to create your own exciting scenes.

Thousands have participated in InterPlay workshops and trainings, learning to use interactive theatre to create dialogue and find solutions to challenging issues. Clients include:

  • World Learning and USAID
