Everybody's It!

  • Number of Participants: 12-30
  • Age Level: Any (especially good for youth, or as a warm-up activity for playful adults)
  • Source: Mark Weinberg of the Center for Applied Theatre in Milwaukee, Wisconsin
  • Uses: Warm-up, encourage play

Everyone stands in an open space. Make sure there is enough room to move around freely, and that there is nothing in the area to trip over!

Tell the participants that this is just like a regular game of tag, only in this game, everyone is it. Anyone can tag anyone else. If you are tagged, you must go to the side of the room and watch the person who tagged you. When someone tags your tagger, you can go back in. If you tag each other at the same time, play a quick game of "Rock, Paper, Scissors" to decide who goes out. People playing "Rock, Paper, Scissors" can't be tagged.

I tried this game in rehearsal as a warm-up, and it worked wonderfully! Everyone became energized, and we loved the silly nature of the game. A word of warning - if you have too many people in a small space, the game becomes chaotic, as it is too easy to tag anyone passing by.
