InterPlay embraces theatre techniques to address social and diversity issues
head on. How can theater help with diversity programs? Antonin Artaud said
it best in Theatre and Its Double: "The
theatre is a formidable call to the forces that impel the mind by example to
the source of its conflicts. . .It releases conflicts, disengages powers and
liberates possibilities. . .The action of the theatre is beneficial for impelling
men to see themselves as they are, it causes the mask to fall. . ."
Interactive theatre has a way of breaking down social, mental and emotional barriers. What better way to face diversity challenges than to explore the issues through theatre exercises and techniques? InterPlay's diversity programs utilize techniques from theatre in order to encourage open and fluid dialogue about the troublesome issues that we face. One reason this method is so successful is that the spontaneity of the exercises in the program doesn't permit anyone to hide. Behind each issue, the underlying truths are brought to the surface. Participants quickly learn to trust each other and to freely share and express feelings and perspectives on the topic at hand. A sense of freedom is felt that stimulates creativity, exploration and openness. Once the conflicts are recognized, workshop participants can then search for solutions to the problems caused by these conflicts. InterPlay provides you with multiple resources for continuing diversity training programs at your workplace, school or community organization even after our sessions with you have ended.
