InterPlay custom designs training workshops for the workplace, educational
institutions and community organizations that address the real-life diversity
issues and
challenges human beings frequently face. The training exercises not only bring
up the problems, but also stimulate dialogue between participants in order
to find solutions to those problems. By taking part in theatre games, dialogue
exercises and participating in a scene concerning diversity issues, you can
break down the the inhibitors of communication. There are several issues that
should be addressed.
Although racism is not as close to the surface as it used to be in past decades, it still exists. Racial discrimination happens all the time. It is expressed with derogatory language, actions and attitudes. These signs of racism are more subtle today, but the impact they have on victims of the discrimination is just as profound and hurtful. Gender challenges have a very real presence in some work and educational environments. Sexual harassment is an extremely common issue. The instigators may not realize they are behaving inappropriately, and the victims may not know how to defend themselves or even feel it is okay for them to do so. Part of the solution to this problem is simply awareness, and then the development of open communication. Other important diversity issues include health-related topics, sexual orientation prejudice and behavior towards people with disabilities. Age discrimination is also an issue in some workplaces.
