Diversity Curriculum For High Schools |
|
For many students, high school is an exciting time filled with making friends,
participating in extra-curricular activities, attending dances and social events,
going on first dates, studying harder than in middle school and preparing for
college. This is not the same scenario for all students, however. Some students
do not enjoy high school. They are shy around others, may experience bullying
and teasing, and may lack the confidence to stand up for themselves or show
off their wonderful individual qualities.
Social biases, stereotyping, bullying, prejudices, sexual harassment and assault and substance abuse are all real problems high school students face. Not all students can talk to their parents about these issues. Some may be afraid to tell their parents and others may have problems at home that inhibit open communication. Still, these issues should be addressed and students should be aware of their options. InterPlay offers diversity training workshops for high school students that will help them to face these challenges and come up with real solutions. Our workshops for teens include listening exercises, storytelling activities, interactive scene performances and theatre games that focus on diversity issues as well as others such as violence, bullying, sexual assault and substance abuse. Participants of the workshops will learn problem solving skills by engaging in real dialogue involving these types of issues. InterPlay's diversity curriculum for high school students can help to break down the barriers that encourage diversity problems. The students will learn more about each other and learn to communicate more openly. Participants will also be able to see the benefits of diversity and learn to embrace each other's differences and similarities. If you have any questions about our high school diversity workshops, feel free to call us at (765) 414-2050 or write us an email at katherine.burke@gte.net. |
