Cultural Diversity Curriculum |
|
Embracing cultural diversity is not only important in the workplace, but
also in the community and school environments. Ignoring our differences limits
our
ability to develop, learn and educate. Many of us define who we are based on
our cultural backgrounds. In society, it is extremely important for individuals
to have their own identity. Since part of this identity is established by the
place and culture we come from, in addition to our own unique experiences,
it is crucial to respect and acknowledge these differences.
In order to achieve in life, we build on what we know and have. Ignoring what is familiar and comfortable to us only cuts away the building blocks that make up our foundation. In school, the curricula developed for children are often based on a set standard that does not always embrace all cultures equally. This makes it more difficult for some to develop at the same pace as others. One way to find solutions to this problem is to encourage communication and to help each person realize his or her self worth. We can embrace our own identities more readily when we are confident we have something to offer that is unique. We learn from our differences. Understanding them helps us to realize that being different is a blessing. Cultural diversity workshops can be greatly beneficial to school environments. They encourage interaction between the participants and help them to use actual dialogue to solve problems. At InterPlay, we have designed exercises to help participants to realize not only their differences, but also their similarities. Feel free to contact InterPlay at katherine.burke@gte.net or (765) 414-2050. We will custom-tailor cultural diversity workshops to suit any and all of your particular needs. |
